• Salary: $60,000-$65,000
• Reports to: Chief Financial Officer | Chief Operating Officer

About the Organization:  

Immigrant Family Services Institute (IFSI) is an official welcome center for immigrants arriving to the United States. Their mission is to expedite the successful integration of recent immigrants into the social and economic fabric of the United States with justice and dignity. Through our “village model”, IFSI integrates children, parents, grandparents, and other stakeholders to provide services that promote education, encourage civic engagement, and strengthen communities.

About the Role:  

The Nonprofit Accountant (Grants) will be a crucial new role for the accounting department. The role, supervised by the Chief Financial Officer | Chief Operating Officer, requires a detail-oriented accounting professional. The role will support streamlining grant reporting and tracking processes, liaising with other team members, and supporting the accounting team. 

This is a unique opportunity to fill a critical need within a fast-paced, evolving nonprofit environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Grant Management & Compliance:

• Track and monitor incoming grant funds, ensuring proper recording and allocation.
• Ensure grant expenditures align with funder requirements, budgets, and restrictions.
• Monitor funding deadlines and reporting due dates.
• Collaborate with program managers and development teams to track restricted vs. unrestricted funds.
• Analyze resource allocations and staffing models to prevent overlap or “double-dipping” between funding sources.

Financial Reporting & Auditing:

• Prepare grant financial reports for funders, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and private foundation requirements.
• Assist with annual audits, providing necessary grant-related documentation.
• Work with leadership to improve financial tracking systems for grants.
• Support month-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.

Invoicing & Revenue Recognition:

• Generate and track invoices for cost-reimbursable grants.
• Reconcile grant revenue and expenditures.

Grant Budgeting:

• Monitor budget vs. actuals, identifying variances and working with leadership to address funding gaps.
• Support budget development for new and existing grants. 
• Assist in developing grant proposal budgets, ensuring proper cost allocation and financial sustainability.

What is required for this position:

• Demonstrated experience in nonprofit accounting, particularly in grant management and fund-tracking. (We imagine 1-4 years of experience).  
• Familiarity with government and foundation grant requirements, reporting, and compliance.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel required. 
• Adaptable to changing work environments.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
• A connection to our mission to support immigrants.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to track, analyze, and report on grant allocations.
• Ability to create, review, and process invoices for grant reimbursement.
• Attention to detail and ability to work on both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong communication skills in English (both written and verbal).

What we are hoping for:

• Proficiency in Airtable, Bill.com, Square, Bloomerang, and Instrumental desired.
• Fluency in Haitian Creole is a major plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred. Demonstrated equivalent experience will be required if a B.A. is not possessed.
• A growth mindset and interest in advancing professional development skills.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary: $60,000-$65,000, FTE, exempt

Work Environment:

• IFSI has a high-energy office, with a combination of open spaces for working and closed offices. 
• There is a need for a willingness to work at a computer throughout the day and occasionally lift items up to 20 pounds. 
• Parking in Mattapan can be challenging, public transportation is encouraged if possible.

What to Expect:

This is our anticipated hiring timeline. Please note there is a brief, compensated skills-assessment in this application process.

• March 18-April 4: Receive Applications 
• March 24 - April 14: 1st Round Interviews via Zoom with Recruiter
• April 14-18: Top candidates invited participate in paid skills assessment 
• April 21-May 2: 2nd Round Interviews with CFO/COO (Direct supervisor) and relevant stakeholders
• Early May: Final Round interviews with Executive Director and key stakeholders
