The University of Southern California Thornton School of Music invites applications for a Music Industry Program Specialist in the Division of Contemporary Music.
The USC Thornton Music Industry program prepares students to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry that is largely rooted in the Los Angeles area. The program combines classroom/online study, technical instruction, and hands-on experience for those seeking a career in the music business. The program offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Industry, a Music Industry undergraduate minor, and a Master of Science degree in Music Industry. As part of the Division of Contemporary Music, the Music Industry program has wide-ranging interdisciplinary and collaboration opportunities with Jazz Studies, Screen Scoring, Popular Music, Music Technology, and Studio Guitar programs.
This is a full-time, non-supervisory, position , reporting to the Senior Career Services Advisor, Music Industry. This position will provide administrative support to the Sr. Career Services Advisor and the Program Chair in the day-to-day operations of the program, working to implement academic program services and activities.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is well-versed in the music industry. The ideal candidate is comfortable multi-tasking and should take initiative, think critically, and possess strong problem-solving skills. This candidate will work in an office environment, focusing on both independent projects, as well as collaborating with other staff members. It is preferred that the incumbent is skilled in using both Windows and macOS. The incumbent should also have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, as they will be interacting with a variety of audiences, including University colleagues, current students, prospective students, and professionals within the music industry. Additionally, they will meet with students to assist with career development practices, including resume building and searching for employment opportunities.
Job duties may be added or modified as needed to support the needs of stakeholders and the goals of the Music Industry program.
Principal duties include:
Serving as an administrative resource for Music Industry students and faculty
Promoting the Music Industry program’s current brand through well-informed communication with prospective students, alumni, industry professionals, and others
Developing and facilitating industry relations via networking
Assist in maintaining the internship and career opportunities database, supporting career development workshops, and liaising with USC’s Career Center (as needed)
Assisting with the development of an alumni tracking initiative, supporting events for program alumni, and supporting alumni communications initiatives
Provide event planning and logistical support to on- and off-campus events for students and alumni
Provide administrative support for the Senior Career Services Advisor, program chair, and faculty.

Job Modality : The Music Industry Program Specialist will be expected to work onsite and may become eligible for one day of remote work following a 90-day performance evaluation.

Hourly Pay Range: $25.00 - $30.00
